From Power to Pretension: The Journey of a Coalition Defector:
One of the leaders of the Coalition, who gave a litany of reasons for jumping camp to join the fringe political party known as ADC, was a powerful member of the Buhari administration. He was entrusted with enormous responsibilities that gave him access, conferred on him awesome powers, and enabled him to wield clout and influence—powers he could have used to change the fortunes of our country. But he became obsessed with oligarchism, cabalism, cronyism, and patrimonialism. He appropriated absolute powers to himself under the belief that the government belonged to him simply because he was from a privileged part of the country. He told a close confidant of mine, in a rage of bravado, “Doesn’t Obla know that I am powerful in this government? Doesn’t he know that this is our government?”
Today, barely two years after serving eight years in their government, he is whimpering, lamenting, and suggesting that Nigerians are facing hardship. Let him first declare how much he has—and worthily release his ill-gotten wealth to the Nigerians he claims are facing hardship—before we even consider seeing his face.
Conclusion
Power should be wielded with humility and purpose—not entitlement. True leadership requires accountability, not just proclamations of sympathy after years of self-enrichment.
