This morning, we declared the 2nd Open Week of the House of Representatives open - not just as ceremony, but as a covenant with the people.
Inside the chambers, I presented the Midterm Legislative Scorecard of the 10th Assembly - a mirror of our strides and a compass for the journey ahead.
In two years, your House has introduced 2,263 bills, passed 237, and moved over 1,100 motions - many touching lives and triggering real executive action. We've held town halls from cities to campuses, opened up hearings, invited memoranda, and made the people our most vital partners in progress.
This Open Week is a platform for truth-telling and bridge-building. From nutrition and food security to women’s representation and youth inclusion, the conversations over the next three days will echo across Nigeria’s future.
We’re not just reviewing our past - we’re sharpening our focus for the road ahead. The House is listening, reforming, and recommitting. The goal is clear: to deepen oversight, advance responsive lawmaking, and foster a legislature that lives up to the dreams of its people.
My sincere gratitude to our guests: Senate President Akpabio, former Speakers, the Emir of Zazzau, civil society, diplomatic missions, NYSC members, students, and all citizens present today.
We are here because you sent us here.
Let the people’s voice be louder. Let the people’s parliament be stronger.
Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON
