The new Act modernises Nigeria’s insurance sector by unifying outdated laws and introducing reforms to boost transparency, investor confidence, and consumer protection.
Key highlights include:
•Higher capital requirements for insurance firms
•Mandatory insurance policies for consumers and businesses
•Strict enforcement of claim settlement timelines
•Digitisation of the industry to improve efficiency and access
•Protection funds for policyholders in case of insurer insolvency
•Stronger regulatory powers for NAICOM
•Expanded regional participation through ECOWAS schemes
The law aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to increase insurance penetration, improve service delivery, and make Nigeria a regional insurance hub in Africa.
